Buggies, Beer, and Bunkers: A Non-Golfer’s Guide to Barrow-in-Furness

When the lads invited me on a weekend break to Cumbria, they thought they were getting a four-man golf squad. What they actually got was a designated buggy driver, an amateur photographer, and a full-time supervisor for our evening antics.

On Friday afternoon, George, Archie, Baz, and I loaded up the car and set off for Barrow-in-Furness. My role for the weekend was simple: leave the clubs to the experts, hijack the golf buggy, snap plenty of photos, and ensure we stayed well-hydrated.

Our main event on Saturday morning was 18 holes at Ulverston Golf Club, perched brilliantly with views overlooking Morecambe Bay. It is a stunning course, though I am convinced the signature hole is the 18th—mostly because it leads straight to the clubhouse.

After finishing on the green, we headed into the town center to catch the Leeds match over a few pints and some solid pub food. One drink naturally led to another, turning into an early-morning marathon across the local nightlife scene.

Sunday morning arrived with a collective sense of fragility, but we managed to make it back home by mid-afternoon—where, predictably, a few celebratory end-of-weekend drinks were required to recover.

(Note: Check out the gallery below! I’ve curated the best shots of the scenery and swing attempts, while graciously editing out a few questionable moments to protect my mates’ reputations!)

Why not listen to some soothing tunes and browse some of my photos below…….
